The Evolution Of The Blog

In the early days of blogging, a blog was simply an online diary. People would start their own blog just to recount what had happened to them that day, week or month. In its simplest form, blogging was the precursor to Twitter in many ways. As people now use Twitter to update their friends on where they have gone and what they are doing, these were the kinds of subjects that used to be blogged about when the idea of sharing personal information online was just starting to grow.

Blogs For Businesses

As it stood in the beginning, blogging was something that was only done by individuals. Companies would never think of starting a blog because, back then, they were looked upon as a form of entertainment only. No one saw any value in using a blog for business purposes and, in fact, any company that would have created a blog in the early days would not have been taken seriously.

At some point, as blogs were becoming more and more popular, bloggers were starting to gravitate towards picking a specific topic to write on. This is due to the fact that the Internet became so saturated with blogs that, unless the subject of the blog was something of interest to a large group of people, it would slip through the cracks and end up becoming virtually ignored. Once blogs started covering a particular topic, people started to take them more seriously. This led to companies, especially ones that operate entirely online, realizing that a blog could be beneficial to them. Blogs were no longer seen as a tool for personal communication only.

Blogging has become a strategy for companies to target their customers and provide them with useful information. If it is constructed properly, a good blog can open a company up to a whole new group of people that may not have known about the company otherwise. An effective blog will also get people talking to other people about the company. Word of mouth advertising is good for companies as is social media.

The evolution of blogging has been enhanced by the creation of social networking sites because companies can use these sites to promote their blog and their website too. These days many company’s blog posts are automatically posted on their social media pages as well. This helps an online business to grow because users will share the blog of a business they frequent with their friends, family and colleagues who will then share it with people they know.

Online companies have also learned that a blog is a great way to get feedback from their customers. It is very easy for companies to interact with their customers this way, and it makes them feel like the company values them. Customer loyalty can be built through the use of a blog that is updated frequently with interesting information that will engage readers.

These days, most online companies know that having a blog is essential to their success.
